Cacti and Succulents

They tell us that plants are not like man immortal, but are perishable—soul-less. I think that is something that we know exactly nothing about.

John Muir (1838-1914) Journal, Autumn 1867

Succulents have evolved to survive in dry environments. They have fleshy leaves that are adapted to storing large amounts of water. Like Succulents, Cacti also have succulent stems that can store large amounts of moisture. They usually have spines and do not have typical leaves. Cacti belong to the Cactaceae or cactus family. All Cacti are succulents, but not all succulents are Cacti.
